Elton John tribute: Lehigh Valley musicians and performers are presenting a tribute concert tor Sir Elton John, starting his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” concert tour, Sept. 8, PPL Center, Allentown. “Egads! We’re Still Standing,” is at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 S. Fifth St., Allentown. Performing Sir Elton favorites are The Gilbert Family “Sing For America!,” Mainstreet Brass, Jim Loftus (above), Jim Steager, Rody Gilkeson, Julia Lipkis, Arthur Benson II, Jason Adams, Eric Gombert and Dixie Carroll. Where there’s smoke: Glenn Hughes, above, performs classic Deep Purple live, 8 p.m. Sept. 8, Penn’s Peak, Jim Thorpe. Hughes, former bassist and singer of Deep Purple, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 20l6. Performing with Hughes are Soren Anderson, guitar; Jesper Bo Hansen, keyboards, and Fernando Escobedo, drums. It’s the first time Hughes has performed a concert solely of Deep Purple material since his last show with Deep Purple at the Liverpool Empire in 1976. Said Hughes: “As my manager pointed out to me, the first time ‘Smoke on The Water’ was ever played live at Madison Square Garden was when David [Coverdale] and I were in the band in 1974. Printmakers at an exhibition: The Printmakers Society of the Lehigh Valley exhibition continues through Sept. 29 with a closing reception, 2-4 p.m. Sept. 23, Nazareth Center for the Arts, 30 E. Belvidere St., Nazareth. An artists’ reception is 6-8 p.m. Sept 21 for the Printmakers Society exhibition at Civic Theatre of Allentown’s Civic 514 Gallery, 514 19th St., Allentown. The Printmakers Society “Fifth Year Anniversary Exhibition,” sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission, concluded Sept. 4 at Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery.
