Northampton Area Public Library is pleased to announce it received a $1,000 grant from the PPL Foundation. These funds supported the summer reading program for children and teens.
Through this grant, the library was able to supplement the summer reading program through supplies for activities and also through prizes for the summer reading challenge. Children and teens could sign up at the library for programs held throughout the summer and for the summer reading challenge to earn prizes for reading. This grant helped support our basic literacy initiative by encouraging reading all summer long and allowing children to continue to work on their reading skills while on summer break.
The PPL Foundation awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process.
“Libraries like Northampton Area Public Library do so much to improve the quality of life in our region,” said Carol Obando-Derstine, regional affairs director for PPL Electric Utilities. “We are pleased to have been able to provide support that helped many area children and teens over the summer. As they are returning to school, we believe the educational support they received over the recent months will help them have a seamless transition back.”
Through strategic partnerships, the PPL Foundation will support organizations that are working to create vibrant, sustainable communities, and empowering each citizen to fulfill her or his potential. The PPL Foundation contributes more than $2 million annually to a wide variety of nonprofit organizations.
