Hokendauqua: GoFundMe started for storm damage at Hokey park

“On Aug. 4, the Lehigh Valley experienced an unprecedented amount of rain in a very short period of time. As a result of the heavy rains, the Hokendauqua Park and Playground sustained severe damages,” Adam Marakovits wrote on a GoFundMe page created for Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association (HPPA) to fix the park’s storm damage.

“The damages included our snack stand, which suffered damages to our cabinets, two freezers, refrigerator and ice maker. Our pavilion, which is used for rentals, suffered damages to the walls, floors and combination refrigerator/freezer.”

Other items that will need to be repaired include playground equipment, baseball fields and the in-park road.

The insurance policy for the park does not cover flooding, the site says.

“We are asking for donations to secure the necessary funds to make these repairs. Our fall baseball/softball seasons are starting in a few weeks, and we need your help,” Marakovits wrote on the page.

As of Sept. 5, out of a $10,000 goal, $5,205 has been raised.

Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road, returns to 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services Sept. 9.

On this day, the rally day event (opening of Sunday school) and church picnic (not a fundraiser) will be held after the 10:30 a.m. service. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided, but you are invited to bring a covered dish to share for lunch and a cake for the planned cake walk.

The rally day committee in past years had pony rides, a moon bounce, closest-to-the-pin contests, a dunk tank, ice cream, face painting and more, so it’s sure to be a fun day for all.
