McKenzie Corinn Hagenbuch of Emmaus was crowned the 2018 Great Allentown Fair Queen during The Lehigh County Agriculture Society (LCAS) 10th annual Great Allentown Fair Queen Contest Aug. 12 at Christopher’s Restaurant, 1519 Greenleaf St., Allentown.

She will be introduced at the Allentown Fair opening ceremonies, 5 p.m. Aug. 28, RCN Farmerama Theater on the Fairgrounds’ west end along Liberty Street.

In addition to Hagenbuch, 17, a senior at Southern Lehigh High School, contestants were Katrina Autumn Maniscalo, 18, of Allentown and a senior at William Allen High School; Sarah Tatham, 18, of Temple, Berks County, a graduate of Oley Valley High School; Kayla Elizabeth Stokes, 20, of Whitehall and a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School, and Amber Lyn Hunsicker, 18, of Fountain Hill and a graduate of Liberty High School.

Each contestant presented a speech, defining their reasons for entering the Allentown Fair Queen Contest. Each had an impressive story to share with members of the LCAS and contest attendees.

Each contestant was asked a surprise question by Cheryl Urmy, Chairperson, Allentown Fair Queen Contest. The questions were sealed and each contestant was asked to open an envelope, read the question and reply. This was a test of a contestant’s ability to respond quickly and effectively in a stressful situation.

Beverly Gruber, President of the Lehigh County Agricultural Society, and Urmy presented the William J, Albert award for the best speech by a contestant to Kayla Elizabeth Stokes.

Judges for this year’s contest were Leslie Bartholomew, Director of Returning Adult and Veteran Services at Lehigh Carbon Community College; Bill Kotowski, a critical care nurse at St. Luke’s University Hospital - Allentown, and Chief of Security for the Allentown Fair, and Rachel Bennicoff, a registered Nurse at Lehigh Valley Hospital and 2014 Allentown Fair Queen.
