The bridge over Indian Creek between Batman Road and Tollgate Road on the Route 100/Route 29 (Kings Highway) will be closed until Aug. 23 while the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and contractors replace the bridge.
According to Upper Milford Township Secretary and Treasurer Jessi O’Donald, extensive preparation for the replacement has already been completed. The bridge will be closed while the final span is finished.
Pennsylvania owns more than 25,000 bridges, according to PennDOT. The average age of bridges in the system is over 50 years, but the Indian Creek bridge is 90 years old.
The detour around the bridge will be via Saint Peters and Seisholtzville roads.
In other meeting news, Emergency Services Committee Vice Chairman Joseph Terrible and his team were commended by Upper Milford Township Supervisor Robert Sentner for the emergency services report submitted to the board.
Lisa Martin, representing the Emmaus Public Library, announced the library will host Community Heroes Day 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 6. The rain date will be Sept. 13.
Martin also told the Upper Milford Township Supervisors that Amy Resh, the director of the Emmaus Public Library, will resign effective Sept. 10. She will accept a job with the Berks County Library.
“We are all sorry to see her leave as she has been an asset to the library,” Martin said.
