MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL

N.A. Studios made a presentation for a revised borough website at the Aug. 20 Macungie Borough Council meeting. It was accepted and the transfer will be done during the early morning hours this week.

It was reported there are problems with mail delivery on Village Walk in Brookfield due to cars parking in front of the mailboxes. The mail personnel will not deliver mail if they cannot get to the mailbox due to vehicles parked there. This is being investigated.

A Macungie police officer attended the 75th anniversary of the Queen City Airport recently. A request was made for an officer from each municipality to attend this event.

The Macungie Police Department said they have evidence to be destroyed which is long overdue. A court order will be needed to destroy the evidence.

The Macungie Police Department was complimented for its coverage of Das Awkscht Fest.

A discussion was held regarding situations requiring activation of emergency management.

There was a discussion about the flooding at Rita’s Italian Ice, in Macungie, recently.

Council discussed floodplain areas. According to Council Member John Yerman, floodplain designations have changed due to climate changes.

There is concern for streets needing paving with some being put on hold due to issues with Main Street. There is a small amount of money available so the list will be re-evaluated to determine what street repaving can be done.

A tree has been picked for the Streetscape Phase 2. It is called the Zelkova City Sprite. Council will purchase one and plant it in Brookfield Park for residents to see.

Borough Manager Chris Boehm discussed the local share account grant, formally known as the gambling fund. The borough will determine the best use of the grant money.

Resolutions 2018-12 and 13 were approved regarding the timing of the lights due to the Stone Hill development.

The first Macungie Borough Council meeting in September will be held 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at borough hall.
