Emmaus Main Street Partners and Gross McGinley will present a Farewell to Summer Festival, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9 at Triangle Park and other venues. Come out and enjoy family-friendly activities for kids, teens and adults, including live music, food, craft vendors and passports to follow a Circus Train Trail. The Emmaus Heritage Alliance will hold its second annual Emmaus Heritage Festival on the grounds of the Emmaus Historical Society museum, 218 Main St. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23. The festival will include inside and outside displays on local history as well as children’s activities, period crafts, demonstrations and entertainment, including Jordan White, Joel Shimer and the Emmaus Moravian Brass Choir. There will be food available for purchase from the Licensed 2 Grill food truck.
Alliance members include the Emmaus Historical Society, Shelter House, Knauss Homestead, 1803 House, the Emmaus Public Library, the Emmaus Moravian Church, Emmaus Remembrance Garden and the Emmaus Main Street Partners. For information, visit www.historicemmaus.org.
The Emmaus Commemorative Gardens Foundation will hold its annual brick installation to honor local community heroes 5 p.m. Sept. 6 at the garden, 164 E. Main St. The ceremony will honor police, firefighters and ambulance corps personnel with bricks in the Community Heroes Walkway.
Following the garden’s dedication, be sure to stop at the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., for the library’s Community Heroes Day festivities 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 6. The event, which is held in the library’s parking lot, is an opportunity to celebrate and thank our community heroes. Youngsters can climb on a fire truck, view the inside of an ambulance and talk with first responders and police officers. In case of inclement weather, the rain date is 6 p.m. Sept. 13. The library’s parking lot closes 5 p.m. to accommodate the Community Heroes Day event.
Due to construction and the holiday, the library will be closed Aug. 27 through Aug. 31 and Sept. 3. It will be open Sept. 1.
Another program highlight during September is the Incredibles Library Card Drive 6 p.m. Sept. 11. The library will show “The Incredibles,” a fun family film, to give everyone a chance to sign up for library cards and have fun at the library. Even if you already have a card, join the staff for the film and show support for your public library.

The Emmaus Garden Club’s Sept. 4 meeting will feature a program, “John Bartram: The King’s Gardener,” portrayed by Kirk Brown. Bartram, America’s first botanist, was close friends with Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. The club meets noon at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. Guests are always welcome. The Emmaus Historical Society museum, 218 Main St., will be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the Farewell to Summer festivities. Stop at the museum to get your passport signed while following the Circus Train Trail. Your museum visit will help you recall the time when a real circus came to Emmaus.
The Emmaus Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at St. John’s Lutheran Church parish hall, Fifth and Chestnut streets. The program will be a presentation of a 16 mm color movie film of the Emmaus school excursions of 1954 and 1955. Members and non-members are welcome.
The society is holding a chicken dinner 5 to 6:30 p.m., prior to the Oct. 10 meeting. The deadline to purchase tickets is Sept. 26. All proceeds benefit the society’s capital campaign. There are several ways to purchase tickets: during Saturday hours at the museum, at David’s Electric, 314 Main St., at the Farewell to Summer festivities, at the Sept. 19 meeting, at the Sept. 23 Heritage Festival or contact a board member. The Emmaus Senior Citizens’ group resumes weekly meetings after its summer hiatus 1 p.m. Sept. 7 at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Congregational Church, Ridge and Fifth streets. The group meets every Friday. All senior citizens in the area are welcome to attend. September programs are Sept. 7: Michael Evan, musician; Sept. 14: a film; Sept. 21: Bill Ludlow, musician, and the Sept. 28 is game day. For information, call 610-966-4273.
The 1803 House, 55 S. Keystone Ave., is celebrating its 215th anniversary with a birthday celebration, “Pies & Pints,” 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23. The donation ticket to the event includes all you can eat Switchback pizza, salad and a taste of the newly released hard cider. Also, included is a glass of Funk’s cold brew served in a commemorative glass or homemade iced tea or water. The event features raffle tickets for the chance to win baskets, a piece of birthday cake and music by Russ Rentler (5:30 to 7 p.m.). St. Ann Church will hold its annual Fall Fest Sept. 6 through 8. The festival at 415 S. Sixth St. is held 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 6, 5 to 11 p.m. Sept. 7 and 4 to 11 p.m. Sept. 8. The festival features live music, homemade ethnic food, kid-friendly all-American food and desserts, carnival rides and games, raffles, nightly bingo and more. There are tents for rain or shine. Emmaus will hold its community yard sale 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8. No fee is required. The rain date is Sept. 9.
The borough offices will be closed Sept. 3 for the Labor Day holiday. Borough council will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 4 and 17. The budget and finance committee meets 3:30 p.m. Sept. 13 and 6:45 p.m. prior to the council meetings.

Hours for the Emmaus compost site change during September. Through Sept. 17, the site is open 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Sept. 19 to Oct. 24, the site will be open 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

The Emmaus Halloween Parade Committee has begun its planning meetings. The committee welcomes volunteers to help coordinate this popular event, which this year will be held Oct 20. If interested, the group meets 7 p.m. every Thursday beginning Sept. 13, in the community room of town hall, 28 S. Fourth St.
Representatives from the office of Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18th, will bring the mobile office to the Emmaus library 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24.
The Woman’s Club of Emmaus will host a “Welcome Back” meeting 6 p.m. Sept. 24. The meeting will include a pizza party to get to know the club’s new officers followed by a program on CPR presented by Emmaus Ambulance Corps personnel. The club’s new officers are Karen Carlisle, Louise Schultz, Lynn Coine, Debra Kahler, Roberta Daubenspeck, Dolores Falco and Bobbie Talalaj.
