Catasauqua: GirlCrue band set to perform

GirlCrue is coming to Catasauqua Park Amphitheater, 501 American St., 7-10 p.m. Aug. 24.

Come on out with your lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments for a fun music-filled evening.

Salem United Church of Christ, 615 Third St., is hosting a free community picnic 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 25. The picnic will be held on the Walnut Street side. If it rains, it will be inside in the fellowship hall.

Hot dogs, snacks and desserts will be served. Come out and join in for fellowship, fun and food.

A memorial butterfly release, co-sponsored by Brubaker Funeral Home and Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 26. There will be registration, crafts, music and baked goods starting 1:45 p.m.

This event will be held at Catasauqua Park & Playground, 501 American St., and is meant to honor loved ones who have passed on and whose names will be read.

There are only 200 butterflies - a symbol of hope - so the event is a first-come, first-served opportunity.

The Borough of Catasauqua is the 2017 Lehigh Valley Planning Commission Community of Distinction Award winner.

The unveiling of the 2017 LVPC Community of Distinction Excellence in Planning Award will take place 4-7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Catasauqua Municipal Complex, 90 Bridge St. All are invited for the unveiling, music and food.

There will be an exhibit of the Bryden Horseshoe Works/Phoenix Forge Group history, sponsored by Historic Catasauqua Preservation Association and Phoenix Forge Group, 1-4 p.m. Aug. 26 at the municipal building and also Aug. 27 at the awards ceremony.

Bryden Horseshoe Works was established in 1882 and was one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Purchase your tickets now for the St. Mary’s Church drive-thru chicken dinner. This is an advanced-tickets-only event. Purchase tickets by Sept. 3.

You can pick up your order between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 by driving up to the parking lot on Union Street and handing volunteers your ticket. The meal includes half a chicken, corn on the cob, a baked potato, cole slaw and a roll. All meals are prepared by Fairview Catering.
