Camp Cementon: Kids take trip to Crystal Cave

Last week’s camp article was printed in error. The correct week seven and eight follow.

Week seven’s theme at Camp Cementon was “funky fun.” We dodged some storms by playing dodgeball inside and soaked up as much as we could by playing Jump the River outside. The campers also enjoyed creating beautiful drawings they hung on the camp walls and playing Four Square inside.

Later in the week, we watched “Despicable Me 3” and munched on some popcorn.

Our trip was to Crystal Cave. All our little explorers learned the difference between stalactites and stalagmites, along with staying cool in the 55-degree cave. After exploring the cave, the campers were able to go to the gift shop to get some beautiful stones, candy and necklaces. We had lunch outside under the pavilion before returning to camp.

Our craft activity on Thursday included slime. Campers had a blast making different colors of slime and adding their favorite glitter. They spent most of their free time playing with and sharing their slime.

We had a fun week playing games, staying dry, exploring the cave and making slime!

Congratulations to our Campers of the Week: Christian M. and Collene S.

The last week at Camp Cementon has come to an end. It was a great week beginning with games like Jump the River and Wonderball. We even played the all-time favorite game of dodgeball outside.

Tuesday was our field trip to the Roxy in Northampton to watch “Incredibles 2.” It was a great movie for kids and adults alike. Lots of laughter could be heard throughout the theater. The kids applauded as the movie came to an end.

Every day was spent at the pool in the afternoon with the campers playing Four Square, enjoying spray candy at the snack stand, playing volleyball and, of course, swimming! Every day was nice and hot, which made for perfect swimming weather. Campers enjoyed watching counselor Eric belly flop off the diving board.

Thursday was craft day. Our craft was creating your own magnets, which the campers had a field day with. They all were unique and fun in their own way.

Friday was our last day with both camps spending the day outside at the Cementon park and enjoying lunch provided by Samuel Owens.

Our Campers of the Week were Matthew M. and Sophia G. Our Campers of the Summer were Jack J. and Olivia B. Awesome job, everyone!

We had another fantastic summer this year with a lot of fun memories and good times. We hope you all have a wonderful school year, and we are looking forward to seeing you all back again next summer!

A special note from the Camp Whitehall director: Our head counselor, Sam Mehalshick, will be moving on to her professional teaching career. Sam, we wish you all the best. Thank you for your leadership and for caring!
