Charles Bednar, an Alburtis resident, spoke with members of borough council at the Aug. 8 meeting about some trees at Lockridge Historical Church. He was concerned some might fall and damage his property and requested the trees be trimmed back or taken down. Council agreed and Alburtis Borough Manager Sharon Trexler will get three quotes.
Lower Macungie Library Finance Manager Susan K. Nenstiel advised council the library has launched a campaign to raise $350,000 to furnish the inside of the library’s new addition so everything is up-to-date, modern and mobile. Nenstiel asked council to consider giving a contribution to help with this campaign. The borough currently contributes $5 per capita, or approximately $500 per year. Councilperson Steve Hill suggested council consider matching that amount for one time only. This will be discussed further at the next council meeting.
To save money, the borough requested insurance quotes and council passed a motion to change companies from Selective Insurance to The Cincinnati Insurance Company. It was said the borough will receive better coverage for less money.
Trexler reported she met with Emmaus borough about the Southwestern Comprehensive Plan Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement. Emmaus wanted to change a couple of things and Solicitor Dave Knerr wanted a paragraph put back in previously removed. Trexler reported everything else is agreeable.
Security Service Co. has suggested removing phone services at the borough’s well houses as there was trouble with the phone system. Instead, they are proposing to install radios at a cost of $250 a month per house. Monitoring is $20 a month per house. Council passed a motion to go with $20 per house per month.
Correspondence was received from the Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of the Budget saying, because of increased fraud attempts, they are making security enhancements. A motion was passed to appoint Tracy Malinowski as borough representative.
Lehigh County Authority notified the borough the estimates exceeded the actual charges for the 2017 final and 2018 second quarter estimated billings. As a result, a credit will be applied to the borough’s estimated sewer billing for the second quarter of 2018. There is no bill for 2017.
