Kristina Moditch, a Russian classical pianist, performs at noon Aug. 14 in the final concert of the 2018 summer “Bach At Noon” concert series at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 S. Fifth St., Allentown.

The fourth summer of Bach’s music in Allentown concludes in August with the third “Bach At Noon” performance by The Bach Choir of Bethlehem. In collaboration with the Arts at St. John’s series, the “Bach At Noon” program is presented on the second Tuesday of the month in June, July and August. The event is free and open to the public. A free-will donation is accepted.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The concert begins at 12:10 p.m. The performance features soloists and members of The Bach Choir and Bach Festival Orchestra, with an informative and lively introduction to each piece from Bach Choir of Bethlehem conductor and artistic director Greg Funfgeld.

Funfgeld says that performing in the beautiful sanctuary of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in center city Allentown has been a delight: “We love the beauty of St. John’s: its incredible stained-glass windows, magnificent pipe organ, and the warmth and peace of this sacred space. It’s a perfect environment for these musical offerings.”

Moditch, who is 17, returns to “Bach At Noon” to perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Partita For Keyboard No. 2 in C Minor,” BWV 826.

The approximate one-hour concert program (without intermission) includes: J.S. Bach, “Cantata 34: “O Ewiges Feuer” (“O Light Everlasting”), a perennial favorite of Bach Choir members; Morten Lauridsen, “Sure On This Shining Night,” and Eriks Esenvalds, “Stars.”

Soloists are Janna Critz, mezzo-soprano, and Lane Conklin McCord, tenor.

Moditch has performed at Moscow Conservatory Great Hall and Rachmaninoff Hall, Moscow International House of Music, Russian Parliament, Glinka Museum of Music Culture, all Moscow, and Carnegie, Hall, Birdland, and The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, all New York City.

She has appeared with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, and the Igor Lerman Chamber Orchestra.

Moditch has played at the New York Piano Festival, Newport Music Festival, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Bach Festival Orchestra “Bach at Noon,” Moscow International Festival of Young Soloists, Vladimir Spivakov International Festival “Moscow Meets Friends,” Nikolai Petrov International Festival, and the Lower House of the Russian Parliament.

Born in 2000 in Pennsylvania, Moditch began her studies at age four and won her first piano competition when she was six.

In 2010, she placed first in the entrance auditions at the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory where she studied with Valery Piassetski. She now studies with Vadim Rudenko.

Moditch is a prize-winner of several international competitions, including the New York Piano Festival and Competition.

Parking for the concert is available about one block west of the church in the Community Deck, Sixth and Walnut streets, Allentown.
