LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Wild Cherry Park will finally get it’s expanded parking lot which was presented at the Aug. 2 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting.

A bid award was accepted from James R. Kenney Excavating and Paving in the amount of $351,000. Seven bids were received ranging from $584,000 to $351,000. The project will include construction of the parking lot, driveway, landscaping and related storm water management improvements.

There was an executive session prior to the meeting regarding township litigation.

Several residents voiced concern over speeding in their neighborhoods. Residents sent letters to the township regarding Harvest Fields and Shepherd Hills. Speed boards were discussed as well as referring the matter to the public works department. A resident also made suggestions as to how to control speeding in the township with photos showing Australian methods.

Another resident of Waterfall Crossings attended the meeting to, again, express her concerns for speeding along Sauerkraut Lane. Speed boards have been in operation and various residents have monitored the area. The township and state police are aware and continuing their observations of this area. Children have expressed their concerns as well. A traffic study will be conducted.

A resident complained about the walking path along Wild Cherry Lane. There is uncut vegetation which, with the rain, has now been hanging over the path. Commissioners were told there are also tree branches that have been cut and bundled and left on the pathway. This will be investigated.

Pedestrian sidewalk improvements at the intersection of South Krocks and Lower Macungie roads were approved. The area is right across from the new Signature Personal Care facility. There will be the potential for road closures and/or lane restrictions. A bid was received and approved for the project in the amount of $92,000.

Sewer planning modules were approved for 2996 Macungie Road and the area at the Suburban Car Wash.

Brookside Road will be closed during some reconstruction in 2019. The area under the Norfolk Southern bridge is the area being reconstructed. A detour will send drivers to Route 100 to Willow Lane to Sauerkraut Lane during the construction.

The Mill Creek Road speed control hump project will begin when the weather improves. The road will be closed during this project.
