Let’s Play Books!, 244 Main St., Emmaus, held its fifth annual “Where’s Waldo” event recently with a gala Aug. 5.
Waldo hunters were encouraged to find clues to the elusive red-striped shirt character’s location at participating businesses in the borough prior to the event in order to garner bonus points through patronage.
Children and their parents were then invited to attend the Waldo Gala event, a culmination of their efforts which included a raffle for bookstore prizes and others donated by local businesses, Rita’s Italian Ice, bubbles and chalk in the courtyard and Where’s Waldo activities throughout the building.
Owners Jim and Kirsten Hess planned and coordinated the Where’s Waldo event. Jim Hess, dressed in Waldo garb, made his way through excited clusters of children and parents and spent time greeting patrons on each floor of the bookstore including the “cattic” where resident cats Bernie and Garfield can be found curled up next to a good book.
The stores shelves were chock full of interesting titles for all age levels, from Where’s Waldo to War and Peace.
Unlike searching for Waldo, patrons found easily accessible parking in a large lot to the rear of the store.
