Public hearing for Lehigh Elementary project set for Oct. 8

A public hearing for the $34.2 million Lehigh Elementary School project will be held 5:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Northampton Area School District Administration Building, 2014 Laubach Ave., Northampton.

The NASD Board of Education voted unanimously 9-0 at its Oct. 23, 2017, meeting to demolish the 63-year-old school and build a new school at the site, 800 Blue Mountain Drive, Walnutport, Lehigh Township.

Lehigh Elementary accommodates 530 students. The new school will accommodate 700 students. The new building, to open for the 2021-22 school year, adds seven classrooms, increasing from 13 to 20, including a fifth kindergarten classroom and a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) lab and classroom.

At the June 25 meeting, school directors voted unanimously 9-0 to approve:

Stephanie DelPolito, English teacher, Northampton Area Middle School, effective Aug. 20, pending receipt of proper documentation, at $60,159, with benefits

Renewal contract with Erika Fitzpatrick, certified Wilson Reading instructor, for school-based services utilizing the Wilson Reading Program at a cost not to exceed $15,000

Short-term contract for Erika Condomitti to provide extended school year services for an NASD student who attends an Intermediate Unit 20-operated program at a cost not to exceed $2,006

Additional compensation for Trina Williams and Kelsey Uppling, NASD psychologists, not to each exceed 25 additional work days to be completed by Aug. 1

Mary Ann Weaver, an unpaid leave of absence, Aug. 20 through on or about April 7, 2019

Textbook adoptions for the 2018-19 school year at a cost of $214,227.48

Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit nonmember school district and charter schools special education services agreement

Accept, with appreciation, the donation of a cash-counting machine valued at approximately $100 to NASD from John C. Pittman

Accept, with appreciation, the donation of a three-year-old Bundy student tenor saxophone valued at approximately $1,000 to NASD from Jefrey and Lisa Miller

Accept, with appreciation, the donation of 152 items of sports clothing, valued at $2,000, to students in need at NAMS from Forza Sports, Pen Argyl

Approved 9-0 at the June 11 school board meeting: Amy Wright, long-term substitute guidance counselor at Northampton Area High School, effective Aug. 20, pending receipt of proper documentation, for the first semester of the 2018-19 school year at $290.97 per diem
