A 91-year-old man and his 81-year-old wife were found dead late in the afternoon of July 31 from a murder-suicide in their home in the 3400 block of Hickory Circle, South Whitehall Township.
According to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim, the man was pronounced dead by Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Richard Pender at 6:41 p.m. He pronounced the woman dead at 6:43 p.m.
An autopsy on the woman was scheduled for Aug. 1. The autopsy on her husband is scheduled for Aug. 2, Grim said.
The cause of the woman’s death was blunt force injuries.
Grim ruled the woman’s death a homicide and the man’s death a suicide.
Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin was at the scene.
“It appears Warren killed Janis and then killed himself by sitting in a car in a locked garage with the car running,” Martin said on a 69 News WFMZ-TV broadcast. “This is an isolated incident and I’m quite comfortable in saying there’s no danger to the immediate community or to the public.”
In addition to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, South Whitehall Township Police are conducting an investigation with the assistance of Martin’s office and the Homicide Task Force.
