LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Final plans discussed for ‘Night’

The July 25 meeting of the Northwestern Recreation Commission covered last minute details of the Night in the Country celebration scheduled for 4 p.m. Aug. 18.

“Night” Committee Chairwoman Kathy Hermany told recreation commission members six light towers, donated previously, will need to be rented.

Fifteen have been donated but that is not enough with 20 considered a minimum. Some of the lights need to be picked up. Some will be delivered.

There was a request to place handouts on car windows for a 5K race but, as people tend to pull them off and leave them as litter, the request was denied.

Northwestern Lehigh School District Superintendent Jennifer Holman pointed out parking spaces in front of the high school will be unusable due to construction at the school.

Hermany said three or four rolls of orange fencing will be needed for crowd control.

Carrot the cow, from Brian Dietrich’s Lynn-acres Farm, will be front and center for cow flop bingo.

Donations are coming in amounts ranging from $50 to $500. Four $500 donations, from Glasbern Inn, New Tripoli Bank, Nestle Waters and New Tripoli Plaza, have been received. More than $3,000 was received as of July 25.

Waste Management donates the use of a 20-yard dumpster. There are many other in-kind donations.

Hermany said all volunteers will be returning.

The park will be closed for Night in the Country, with set up the day before and cleanup the day after.
