The Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., will celebrate the finale of the summer reading cub with its second annual pool party 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Emmaus Community Park pool. The event will feature story time, crafts and fun. Entrance to the pool is free with an Emmaus Public Library card. Some 427 youngsters and 200 adult readers have participated in the reading club to date. Final reports need to be turned in by 5 p.m. Aug. 18.

The library is celebrating Harry Potter’s birthday 2 p.m. July 31 with a Quidditch match and party. This event is for everyone, so youngsters can bring their parents. Come wearing your house colors and be ready to run. Cake will be provided after the game. Sign up in advance. In the event of rain, the tournament will move indoors. To sign up, call 610-965-9284.

Consider making a donation to the library before Aug. 31. An anonymous donor will match up to $25,000 in donations collected through Aug. 31. Send to Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., Emmaus, 18049.

The library will be closed for construction and the Labor Day holiday Aug. 27 through Aug. 31 and Sept. 3. It will be open Sept. 1.

The Emmaus Garden Club will meet noon Aug. 7 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. The program will be “Garden Jeopardy” with master gardener Tom Ritter. Ritter is the Alex Trebek of gardening and will test the group’s knowledge on gardening topics. Guests are always welcome. For information, call 610-965-6109.

The Emmaus Police Department will host a National Night Out event 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7. The activities will take place in front of the police department facility, 400 Jubilee St. National Night Out is an annual community building campaign promoting police-community partnerships. This is the first time the police department will host activities during the National Night Out event. Among the activities will be an open house with tours of the facility, a dunking booth (dunk the chief) and grilled hot dogs. In case of rain, the activities will be held in the police garage. The Emmaus Farmers market is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday at the BB&T parking lot, 235 Main St. The market is celebrating 15 years of operation this year. For information, visit www.EmmausMarket.com.

The Emmaus Historical Society Museum, 281 Main St., will change its hours starting the first weekend in August. The museum will be open two additional hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and closed Sundays except for special events. Scheduling for private tours for groups and organizations can be arranged by calling the museum at 610-966-6591.

The members of the museum’s collections and display committees thank everyone for their donations. In the upcoming months, several new displays and exhibits, including a new acquisitions display, will be featured. The collections committee welcomes donations of Emmaus-related items. Donations may be dropped off during Saturday hours and by calling the office. The society is hosting three bus trips in the next few months. The Shelter House Society will hold its membership picnic 6 p.m. Aug. 15 in the Shelter House pavilion. Guests are invited to bring a covered dish for sharing. Emmaus Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. Aug. 20 in council chambers, 28 S. Fourth St. The budget and finance committee meets 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9 and 6:45 p.m. prior to the council meeting.

The E-Waste recycling center is open noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 13.

Zumba is held 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays in the Community Park’s Arts Pavilion.

The community park pool will be open noon to 8 p.m. every day in August until Aug. 26. The pool will close Aug. 27 through Aug. 31. It will reopen noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 1 and 2 and noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 3.

The Knauss Homestead Preservation Society will host an open house of the historic building, 152 E. Main St. (rear), noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 5. The society will hold its first annual picnic noon Aug. 11. The Emmaus Moravian Church, 146 Main St., will hold a free back to school shop, open to the public, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 18 in the community room. The Emmaus Recreation and Entertainment Commission invites you to cruise in with your car at Emmaus Community Park, 1401 Shimerville Road, 2 to 8 p.m. Aug. 19. There will be live music 4 to 8 p.m. The cruise-in with the Main Street Cruisers includes a car show, live music, vendors, food trucks and kids activities. There is a donation to enter. All proceeds go the Emmaus Recreation and Entertainment Commission, which provides free family friendly events throughout the summer. This is a rain or shine event. Other featured programs include: Dr. Khori Newlander of Kutztown University who will introduce attendees to the world of archaeology with artifacts from a project in northeast Pennsylvania 2 p.m. Aug. 20.

You are invited to come out and perform your original song or poem written about the library during the library’s “Emmaus Got Talent,” program 7 p.m. Aug. 9. All ages and abilities are welcome.

There will be a presentation at the library on solar energy, “Solarize Lehigh Valley,” 7 p.m. Aug. 6 for adults.

Bill Barto, of the Emmaus Historical Society, will combine interesting history of early 20th century Emmaus with a demonstration of wax-cylinder records on a vintage machine in a program, “Tom Edison’s Greatest Hits,” 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at the library.

Representatives from the office of Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18th, will bring the mobile office to the Emmaus Public Library 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 13.

Save the date: The Emmaus Garden Club’s Sept. 4 meeting will feature a program, “John Bartram: The King’s Gardener!” Bartram will be portrayed by Kirk Brown. Bartram, America’s first botanist, who was close friends with Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, is credited with reforesting most of the English countryside with new American plants. Brown, a graduate of Cornell University, has received numerous awards for advancing horticulture in Pennsylvania and for landscape design. For information, call 610-965-6109.
