Top city, borough, township and Pennsylvania State Police traffic safety officers were recognized with awards at a ceremony July 2 at Coca-Cola Park, Allentown.
The awards recognized the officers who made the largest number of driving under the influence arrests and issued the greatest number of traffic citations in police jurisdictions in the area.
The ceremony is held annually under the auspices of the DUI Highway Safety Task Force.
Recognized for most city citations were Officer Craig Berger of the Allentown Police Department with 63 DUI arrests and Officer Anthony Scocca with 836 traffic citations.
Recognized for most borough arrests were Officer Steven Fritzinger of the Fountain Hill Police Department with 50 DUI arrests; and Officer David Wood of the Fountain Hill Police Department, with 1,465 traffic citations issued.
Neither officer was able to attend the ceremony.
Sgt. Dathan Schlegel, of the Upper Macungie Police Department, was recognized as the top township officer with 54 DUI arrests, and 1,279 traffic citations.
Recognition for Pennsylvania State Troopers included Trooper Timothy McManus, of Troop M, Fogelsville, with 64 DUI arrests and Trooper John Marstellar, also of Troop M, with 716 traffic citations.
Sgt. Dathan Schlegel, of the Upper Macungie Police Department, was named top Lehigh Valley township traffic safety officer when he was awarded recognition certificates for 54 DUI arrests and 1,465 traffic citations during the previous 12 months.PRESS PHOTOS BY JIM MARSH
