ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL

A group of Allentown Central Catholic High School students started their summer with a nine-day pilgrimage to Italy.

The group, which consisted of about 40 students, chaperones, school chaplain Father Mark Searles and former chaplain Father Allen Hoffa, traveled to Florence, Assisi, Sorrento and Rome.

Tour highlights included the Uffizi Gallery and the Academy of Art in Florence; the Basilicas of St. Claire and St. Francis of Assisi in Assisi; views of the Amalfi Coast and Mount Vesuvius in Sorrento and the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Trevi Fountain in Rome.

The priests in attendance had the chance to celebrate Mass in churches visited by the group. Fr. Searles celebrated Mass in the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Flower in Florence and Fr. Hoffa celebrated Mass in a monastery near the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Assisi.

The group also attended Pope Francis’ audience in St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City.
