Cedar Crest College
Meade named 14th president
The board of trustees of Cedar Crest College has announced that Dr. Elizabeth M. Meade has been named the 14 president of Cedar Crest College, effective July 1.
She has been the interim president since July 2017, was the provost for five years and has been a member of the college faculty since 1993, during which she was the acting provost and chair of the Department of Humanities.
She was instrumental in the implementation of the college’s recently approved strategic plan, advancing programmatic areas and showing a commitment to disciplined fundraising. She began recently a $5.2 million renovation of the student center and a residence hall and a branding initiative.

SAGE information
Cedar Crest College’s School of Adult and Graduate Education will hold an information session from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 in the Tompkins College Center.
Prospective students will be able to meet program directors and faculty who will speak about the college’s undergraduate and graduate academic programs. There will be a campus tour.

Northampton Community College
Line worker program begins July 18
NCC will hold a hands-on, non-credit information session about its line worker program at 5 p.m. July 18 and 23 in Room 130 A - D, Alumni Hall, main campus. Prospective students will be able to meet the experienced instructors, learn about the program and about potential sources of financial assistance for qualified candidates.
The 12-week course, which begins Aug. 20, prepares students for entry-level linework in the electrical and telecommunications fields. During the course, which includes 375 hours of instruction, students will learn to safely and efficiently climb 40 meter floor utility poles, construct assemblies while on poles, use a variety of hand tools and understand the basics of electricity.

College named safety training partner
HMK Insurance, of Bethlehem, has chosen Northampton Community College’s Center for Business and Industry to partner with to provide safety training, OSHA compliance training and workplace hazard assessment to its clients.
These services can help to lower their insurance rates, avoid fines and improve productivity. Training reduces injury and illness costs by 20 to 40 percent. Safety and health management programs can reduce those costs by 20-30 percent.
According to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, businesses spend more than $170 billion each year on workplace injuries and illnesses.

Penn State University
Application nights begin Aug. 29
There will be 12 application nights for prospective students interested in applying to any Penn State University campuses from 6 to 8 p.m. from Aug. 29 through Nov. 28 at the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus, 2809 Saucon Valley Road, Center Valley
Admissions representatives will be available to assist with applications for spring, summer and fall 2019 enrollment. The application fee will be waived for those who visit the Lehigh Valley campus.
