Nutritionist helps keep Giant shoppers healthy

Have you ever wondered how many calories you eat in a day?

Do you question which vegetables are better for you?

Are you thinking about how to lower your caloric intake? How to read a food label?

Stop wondering - at the Giant Food Market, Trexlertown, a nutritionist can answer all these questions and more.

Mary Ann Moylan, RD, LDN, CDE, who had been a hospital dietitian in the Lehigh Valley Hospital for many years, now has an office in the Giant.

Look for her in the nutritionist office in the front of the store where you can stop in to make an appointment for a $20 individual consultation for one hour.

Afterward, she presents the health conscious shoppers with a $20 gift card for use in the store.

Not only does she give individual consultations but there are also free Lunch ‘n’ Learn classes, community events and store tours.

Ask about meal plans, calories or medical issues. She can calculate nutritional needs and give tips.

Follow up visits are also available and individual consultations can be scheduled for weight management.

After the individual consultation, there are free monthly group sessions but sign up is necessary.

She conducts classes on the second floor of the Giant, which can hold 25 people.

Time for the free classes is 5:30-6:30 p.m. after the work day. Senior citizens like classes from 1-2 p.m. in the afternoons.

Registration for classes is required. Check in the Giant for lists of these classes.

Moylan can suggest products, take customers on the store floor and show the best products to purchase.

Moylan been a nutritionist for Giant for the past 10 years in the Malvern Giant.

In addition to the Trexlertown Giant she can work for any store in the district which includes 11 Giants, eight of which are Whitehall, Easton, Bethlehem, Coopersburg, Saucon Valley, Allentown, Macungie and Hellertown.
