L. MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

At the June 21 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, a lot line adjustment and land development plan for 5329, 5347 and 5357 Hamilton Blvd. for an Arby’s restaurant was approved. This fast food restaurant will include a drive-thru.

The planned structure will be built around the farmhouse and include street trees. There will be a connection made with Hamilton Crossings for pedestrians.

The commissioners said they were very pleased with the plan as it saves the farmhouse. The business is projected to open January 2019.

The lot line adjustment and land development plan for 5502-5518 Hamilton Blvd. for Body Elite, a physical fitness and personnel training facility, was also approved.

A resident thanked the township for the micro-surfacing of the roads in Hidden Valley, saying the surface was very clean and safe.

Fred Zahradnik, chairman of the environmental advisory committee, said the new recycling containers have been well-received with less trash being blown around. He said the containers are sturdier and easier to maneuver with the wheels on the bottom. It is also assumed the waste management workers are pleased these containers can be emptied automatically.

It was suggested private communities incorporate new recycling containers within their communities and the township create an ordinance for this.

A resident spoke at a previous meeting about speeding on Sauerkraut Lane. A speed board was placed to clock speeds with some vehicles recorded up to 80 miles an hour. The speeding will be further investigated.

Commissioners approved pedestrian pathway improvements at South Krocks Road and Lower Macungie Road.

It was recommended the township seek an arborist consultant. The township needs assistance choosing trees that can handle temperatures and air quality.

The township recognized 26 volunteer firefighters who became board certified after 190 hours of training. They were recognized for their dedication and hard work.

The East Texas Village Zoning Amendment (ETV3) was discussed. This amendment will allow for certain types of development within the East Texas area keeping in mind the maintenance, preservation and enhancement of the general area.

The next commissioners meeting will be July 19. There will be no meeting July 5.
