Emergency Management Coordinator Josh Bingham told Heidelberg supervisors at their June meeting that Lynn-port is considering buying a new truck and wants help with the purchase from Heidelberg.

The next joint emergency service meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11.

The response time for Northern Valley Ambulance calls was 10.7 minutes. NOVA is still not fully staffed but expects to be soon.

Goodwill Fire Company Chief Jay Scheffler told supervisors his crew is taking training classes in ropes and forestry. The township has agreed to pay $50,000 toward a brush truck.

All went well when the fire police helped with traffic at the land preservation program on David and Sonia Fink’s Heidel Hollow farm.

Schnecksville borrowed the Heidelberg brush truck when it had its fireworks display at the Schnecksville Community Fair.

Supervisor Steve Bachman said Northern Valley Ambulance is looking for a new liaison person since Mark Smith left.

Bachman gave the recreation report saying there will be a Color Run Oct. 14.

He also noted while bids were expected to be between $60,000 and $90,000 for the walking trail, they actually came in with a low of $193,000 and high of $311,000.

The cost will need to be discussed at the next recreation commission meeting, he said.

Engineer Chris Noll asked where the numbers came from but no one knew.

Four drivers damaged the recreation fields by doing doughnuts when the fields were wet.

Two agreed to pay half the damage. The other two are being turned over to the police.

Roadmaster Kevin Huber said the road crew is cleaning dirt roads. He said water coming off buildings is causing problems. There is a hole on Saegersville Road that people drive around and may cause an accident.

Assistant Zoning Officer Dawn Didra will turn the sump pump problem over to Noll. The pump is emptying into the street.

Noll said ordinance updates are still with the planning commission.

The Environmental Advisory Council meeting on the county level had good attendance. Its subject was wells and septic systems.

A Hawk View home cannot meet the 100-foot distance for well and septic distance. A waiver was granted for the 72-foot distance with the township indemnified from damages.

The six-municipalities updating their planning ordinance will receive a matching grant of $61,860.

The Green Light Go grant to provide a battery backup for the traffic signal at Routes 309 and 100, when power is out, will have until Dec. 31 to be used.

Township officials and the road crew were given permission to attend the Lehigh County Association of Township Officials convention in August.

A fireworks ordinance required by the state requires permitting by municipalities and a check of the proposed site. Commercial displays will require insurance.

Bachman said they only ever had one complaint. He also said the township does not want to jeopardize “Night in the Country,” the Northwestern Recreation Commission’s top fundraiser. Noll said the township does not have to adopt the ordinance but Bachman said it is necessary because of the fireworks at “Night.”
