Falcons go 1-2 at Beach Bash Tourney

The annual Bash at the Beach basketball tournament was held this past week at Cedar Beach Park in Allentown. A total of 40 teams competed in the varsity boys tournament and 17 teams entered in the girls tournament.

The Salisbury boys had a tough road from the start, which included an opening-round game against a state playoff squad from this past winter. Rene Figueroa scored 26 points to help Panther Valley edge the Falcons on Thursday, 60-57.

The Falcons bounced back with a dominant win over Allen’s JV team, led by Sean Snyder’s game-high 25 points. But Salisbury’s run came to an end on Saturday against Pocono Mountain West (46-31) in the consolation bracket.

Berks Catholic repeated as boys’ champions of the tournament, going a perfect 6-0 on its way to a 54-48 win over Emmaus in the title game. It is the first time in the tournament’s history, since becoming the Bash at the Beach, that a team has won two straight championships.

Nazareth, after an early loss to Dunmore, captured the girls’ championship with a win over Notre Dame (Green Pond) on Sunday evening. The Blue Eagles avenged that Dunmore loss by defeating the Bucks in the consolation bracket finals.

Nazareth’s Tayla Brugler was named MVP of the girls’ tournament, while Casey Jack of Berks Catholic captured the honor on the boys’ side.
