July 1 is the deadline for final bid acceptance on the Emmaus Arts Commission’s birdhouses entered in the “Best of the Nest” Birdhouse Art Auction. Thanks to a generous local craftsman, the commission was able to give 22 handcrafted wooden birdhouses over to 22 artists/artist-teams so each piece could be transformed from the ordinary into the extraordinary. The entire collection can be seen at Herbein’s Garden Center, online at emmausarts.org or at the Emmaus Arts’ Facebook pages. The final bids will be accepted at the Emmaus Farmers Market until 1 p.m. July 1. Bids will also be accepted via text at 610-283-0127 until July 1. All proceeds go toward funding the EAC’s projects.

The Emmaus Farmers Market is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday at the BB&T parking lot, 235 Main St. Free parking can be found on streets surrounding the market and behind Schantz Funeral Home, 250 Main St., in the lower parking lot area. The Emmaus Historical Society Museum, 218 Main St., is open noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. A new exhibit at the museum honors the recent Emmaus High School Class of 2018, also, the 50th anniversary of the EHS Class of 1968 and all the classes who graduated with a year ending in eight since 1898. The museum is also showing its Americana red, white and blue exhibits with a vintage patriotic display.

The society wants to thank everyone who donated to, or shopped at, its June 2 yard sale. It was a tremendous fundraiser. The society will start collecting donations for next year’s sale in the fall. Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. July 16. The borough offices are closed for the holiday July 4. The community park pool is open daily noon to 8 p.m. Aqua Zumba is offered 6 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday through Aug. 22. There is a minimal cost to participate. In case of inclement weather, Aqua Zumba will be held Friday. Zumba is offered 9 a.m. every Saturday at the Arts Pavilion.

Concerts in the park during July include July 1, the Macungie Band; July 8, Dueling Pianos; July 15, Swing Time Dolls; July 22, Large Flowerheads and July 29, Karen Rodriquez Latin Jazz Ensemble. All concerts begin 6 p.m.

The June movie under the stars at Emmaus Community Park is “The Breakfast Club” June 29.

The July movie under the stars at the park is “Coco” July 27. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be shown in the Arts Pavilion. Movies begin at sundown.

The Emmaus Garden Club meets noon July 3 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. The program will be “Introducing Ikebana” by Mary Jane Risch, a master in the Ichiyo School of Ikebana. Each year the Emmaus Public Library holds a special event “Community Heroes Day,” to put a positive face on the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The Emmaus Commemorative Gardens Foundation will hold an annual bricks installation in conjunction with the library’s event 5 p.m. Sept. 6. After the brick installation and dedication, the celebration of heroes continues at the library with festivities 6 p.m. until dark.

Bricks to honor police officers, firefighters or ambulance corps members can be ordered and purchased at the Remembrance Garden website, www.emmausremembers.org or call Mike Waddell at 484-274-2089 for more information. Bricks must be ordered by July 15 for the Sept. 6 ceremony.

There is a lot going on at the library, 11 E. Main St., during July. The youngsters are all busy reading books as members of the Summer Reading Club “Libraries Rock!” Please note: the library will be closed for the Independence Day holiday.

The library will offer 10:30 a.m. Monday morning matinees. The movies include July 2: “Sing;” July 9: “Disney’s Brave;” July 16: “Disney’s the Princess and the Frog” and July 23: “The Muppets Take Manhattan.” All movies are PG.

A family film, “Jurassic Park” (PG-13) will be shown 2 p.m. July 7.

Miss Jolie will present “Buckets Full of Nature: Digging Dinosaurs” 11 a.m. July 18. Wes Loder will share the music and history of the bagpipes with “Making Music: Bagpiping,” 2 p.m. July 10.

Bring your recorder or flutophone and play along as the St. Ann Recorder All-Stars present a summer concert for kids and families 2 p.m. July 24.

Briana Hart, a graduating EHS senior, received the Woman’s Club of Emmaus scholarship June 6 during the club’s end-of-year luncheon held at the 1760 Pub-N-Grille in Trexlertown. New club officers were installed and longtime members were honored during the luncheon. Entertainment was provided by the barbershop quartet, Fourtissimo.
