Coplay: 150th group to meet June 28

The borough’s 150th anniversary committee meets 7 p.m. tonight, June 28, in council chambers, 98 S. Fourth St.

The sesquicentennial parade will be May 18, 2019. The parade’s theme will have historical tones.

Children in the borough, ages kindergarten through 12th grade, are invited to Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative’s summer breakfast camp at Redeemed Christian Church of God, 5 N. Third St. The breakfast is 8:30-10:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays.

There are activities and crafts, as well as a free bagged lunch.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church’s homecoming picnic committee is busy planning the annual event. The picnic is noon-10 p.m. Aug. 5.

Volunteers are extra busy making pierogies, a staple year-round, for the picnic.

The Coplay Borough Parkway pavilion has some open dates for the public to hold family reunions, picnics, organization events, meetings and church-related gatherings.

Saylor Park will be the setting for the 17th annual Ironton Rail Trail 10K run/walk. This fundraiser for the IRT is to help maintain the historic trail through Coplay, Whitehall Township and the spur in North Whitehall Township.

The starting block on the trail is north of the American Club of Coplay pavilion.
