“What the American Flag Means to Me” poems

First Place: Logan Kuder

Willow Lane Elementary School

Teacher: Mr. Sean Finnegan

My Banner Yet Waves

My flag stands tall,

red, white and blue.

50 stars for me and you.

Waving high over our land.

Hand over heart as I stand.

The United States is what I call,

Freedom, liberty and justice for all.

Showing respect for our flag is what I know.

This was taught to me as I started to grow.

Today I’m a scout with Troop 431.

Honoring our flag is number one.

Ceremonies, parades and at all meetings,

The flag is displayed with heartfelt meaning.

What’s the part of my life I can’t picture without?

It’s The American Flag...There is no doubt!

I am an American and the American flag means a lot to me

The flag stands for my country and when I see it, I stand proudly

I love saying the pledge every morning

Because the flag reminds me of freedom, state and liberty

It reminds me of the people who came first

The Pilgrims, the original colonies,

And people who tried to come

But didn’t quite make it easily

I love seeing the flag flying in the wind

Because the flag reminds me of home, friends and family

It reminds me of special days

The Fourth of July, summer fun,

Baseball games

And eating popsicles in the sun.

I love to think of what my country will be

Because the flag reminds me to be brave, proud, and happy

It reminds me of those who will come next

Those who will experience this wonderful country

And those who will live free

Because under the flag I know I’ll always have the right to just be me

Oh American Flag, you mean a lot to me in a very special way,

So we say The Pledge of Allegiance every single day.

The colors are red, white, and blue with fifty stars,

That represent American battle scars.

This beautiful flag represents the beautiful nation

That started because we wanted representation.

The American flag means a lot you see,

And we are super glad that we are FREE!
