ASO extends Wittry contract

Diane Wittry, Music Director and Conductor for the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, has extended her contract with the Allentown Symphony Association for another three years, Board of Associates President Mike Torbert announced June 11.

“We are excited that she will be continuing to bring worldwide, aspiring artists and programs to the Lehigh Valley community,” Torbert stated in a press release.

Now in her 23rd season with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Wittry was named one of the “Top 30 Professional Musicians” by Musical America in 2015 and the “Outstanding Alumnus of the Thornton School of Music” at the University of Southern California in 2013.

Wittry was guest conductor for opening ceremonies at the “Future of Women” conference, May 8-14, Sias International University, Xinzheng, China. The conference was attended by more than 6,000.

She was a Master Conducting Teacher for the Beyond the Baton International Conducting Workshop, June 4 - 8, Norwalk, Conn. The workshop was based on Wittry’s books, “Beyond the Baton” and “Baton Basics.”

She is guest conductor for the Creative Arts Music Festival, July 15-22, Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, Luzerne County.

Witty will be a Master Conducting Teacher at Pacific Northwest Conducting Institute, July 28- Aug. 5, Whidbey Island, Wash., hosted by the Saratoga Chamber Orchestra and expected to be attended by 20 conductors from the United States.

Wittry’s compositions have been performed by orchestras across the United States.
