Coplay: Library planning wilderness program

Coplay Public Library is hosting the Wilderness Rocks program with the Lehigh County Conservation District 1 p.m. June 21.

The Edward M. Kennedy Democratic Association is hosting an event 1:30 p.m. June 24 at Paulie’s Restaurant, 1214 Chestnut St.

Organizers hope to develop a Democratic association, possibly referred to as the Cement Belt Democratic Association.

The group could include Democrats from Whitehall, Coplay, Catasauqua, Northampton and North Catasauqua.

Coplay Public Library will have Movie Monday June 25. The feature film is “School of Rock” and starts 5 p.m.

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., will have its annual Stiftungsfests celebration June 24.

The 2 p.m. program features songs in Austrian, German and English by the Reading Liederkranz, Lancaster Liederkranz, Copay Saengerbund Chorus and the club’s Hianzich Chorus. Joe Kroboth’s polka band will entertain at the outside pavilion beginning 3:30 p.m.

Ethnic Austrian and German food are on the menu.

Sponsored by the club and its heritage committee, the event is free and open to the public.

Milander’s Deli, 301 Center St., will close June 22 after the owner, Dean Fenstermaker, decided to cease operations after two-plus years.

The closure of the Coplay-Northampton Bridge is said to have played a factor in the decision.

There is no notice of a new operator for the market.

Coplay’s Parkway Pool will remain open through the end of August, later than most public pools in the area.
