The fire ordinance in Washington Township was largely rejected at the April meeting when the meeting room filled with residents and fire company volunteers who were against the proposal.

During the board’s June 6 meeting, supervisors announced there were some changes made to the ordinance which will be re-advertised.

Changes include better definition of campfires in all districts, distances between properties where there will be campfires, and burning leaves in the fall when it is impossible to get them alongside the road for pickup.

The ordinance is on display at the township office.

Colton Rex was hired as a part-time laborer at a rate of $15 per hour.

Lehigh Asphalt’s bid of $272,929 for Superpave mix was tentatively approved and Shiffer Bituminous received the bid for seal coating at $190,342.

Matthew Szuchyt, liaison from the office of state Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th, told the board the senator’s office is willing to help the township with any problems that may arise.

Szuchyt received a laugh when he said he was sure they never had problems with PennDOT.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, Ed Ziegler thanked supervisors for painting arrows one of the roads in Emerald and said the paint is wearing off on Old Mill Road and will need repainting.

Emergency Management Cooordinator Sherry Graver told the board Medicaid payments for ambulance use will be raised from $120 to $180, if the legislation is passed.

She said the actual cost is around $500 per call for Northern Valley Ambulance Corps when life support is involved.
