Weisenberg Fire Co. responds to Upper Macungie garage fire

According to an email from Trexlertown Fire Chief Stephen Oplinger, Weisenberg, Macungie, Alburtis, Lower Macungie and Topton firefighters were called for a second alarm to assist Upper Macungie firefighters at a garage fire at a home at 9359 Trexler Road, Breinigsville.

Volunteer firefighters from Good Will Fire Company No. 1 Trexlertown, Fogelsville and Upper Macungie Station 56, along with Cetronia Ambulance Corps personnel, were dispatched just before 3 p.m. on June 3 for a working fire in the attached garage.

The Cetronia Fire Department was dispatched for additional manpower.

“New Tripoli was called to stand by in Upper Macungie,” Oplinger said.

Some 40 firefighters responded to the scene, he added.

Upon arrival, they were confronted with heavy fire in the two-car garage attached to the renovated farmhouse.

Using water supplied from a tanker, fire crews were able to quickly knock down the fire to prevent it from spreading to the home. Fire units remained on scene for well over an hour to be sure the fire was completely extinguished and any fire that had extended into the main part of the home had been thoroughly doused.

“The fire was placed under control at 5:50 p.m.,” Oplinger said.

He said where the fire started and the cause of the fire are being investigated by Trexlertown Fire Marshal Dennis McArdle.

“Damage was centered around the garage,” Oplinger said.

“There was minor damage to the home.”

Oplinger noted there were two adults at home when the fire started.

There were no pets in the home, he added.

One firefighter was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for unspecified injuries.

The American Red Cross Lehigh Valley was notified and is providing housing, Oplinger said.

According to Lehigh County assessment records, the home is owned by Charles B. and Betsy J. Harrison.
