UPPER AND LOWER MILFORD TOWNSHIP COLUMN
If it’s June, it’s carnival time at the Lower Milford Fire Company on Limeport Pike. This year’s carnival will be held June 13 to 16. Grounds open nightly 6 p.m. and live music begins 7 p.m. Fireworks will be held June 15, beginning at dusk.
There will be rides, games, a silent auction, a beer pavilion and much more. For a list of the bands who will appear, details on the silent auction and other information, check out the Lower Milford Fire Company online.
The Upper Milford Youth Association has announced its sponsorship of the Lehigh Valley Tempest, the Lehigh Valley’s very own premier women’s soccer team. Details about the team along with the UMYA sponsorship can be found on the Tempest website at http://www.lehighvalleytempest.com.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the youth of the program, and as sponsors, UMYA is strongly encouraging its families to attend home games, which are scheduled 7 p.m. June 14 and 16 at the Cedar Crest College FalconPlex. Admission of children from within the UMYA soccer program is free as long as they are wearing a UMYA soccer shirt or jersey and they bring along a copy of the voucher which was mailed to families in May.
A few UMYA girls teams will be featured at some of the home games as well.
One final note regarding the sponsorship is that UMYA plans to hold two soccer clinics in June with the support of several Tempest players: 6 to 8 p.m. June 12 at Lenape Park for U10 and younger and 6 to 8 p.m. June 19 for U11 and older at Jasper Park. Registration is open online at www.umya.org.
Participating in one or both clinics will be: Sam Busillo (Kutztown University, current Cedar Crest College assistant coach); Darien Vercillo (University of South Carolina, current Lehigh Valley United coach); Alyssa Finelli (Lafayette College, current Seton Hall University assistant coach); Sarah Oswald (West Chester University, current Emmaus High School head coach); Ali Brosky (Slippery Rock University, current EHS assistant coach) and Evangeline Soucie (University of Kentucky, current University of Kentucky assistant coach).
In other UMYA news, this summer has been slow to start, but it is here! And that means kickball. To paraphrase an anonymous kickballista: kickball is a game of passion and a bunch of other emotions... It is the single greatest game ever conceived, etc.
The last day to register for summer kickball is June 18. Join UMYA for relaxed fun and more fun. Kickball is for all experience levels, mixed ages (five to 12) and coed.
