Washington board makes donations

During a recent meeting, Washington Township supervisors have given approval to release a $1,000 budgeted donation to the Northern Lehigh swimming pool association. Also receiving a donation was the Slatington Public Library which gets $3,000

The amount of $20,000 was approved for Citizen’s Fire Company, Slatedale.

An intermunicipal planning agreement was approved for the Northwest Lehigh County comprehensive planning group consisting of Slatington, Lynn, Heidelberg, Washington, Weisenberg and Lowhill townships.

A grant application will be sent to the Department of Community and Economic Development. They will begin planning shortly.

Under public comment David Fink of Heidelberg Union Church asked permission to use Washington roads as part of a 5K run on Sept. 22. It will begin at the church. Germansville Fire Company will provide the fire police.

He also said he appreciates Washington Township participation in the quarterly COG meetings. The six members share equipment and provide work assistance.

“The supervisors are welcome to attend,” he said.

Resident Ed Ziegler was concerned about the closing of the Walnutport-Slatington bridge when it shuts down in June.

Ambulances and fire trucks will be allowed through but have to give notice.

He also told supervisors the veterans monuments in Emerald and Slatedale need to be cleaned.

Ziegler said they are not being cared for properly as they deserve.
