Do The Freddys: The 2018 Freddys Awards Ceremony will be broadcast at 7 p.m. May 24 from the State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton, on 69 WFMZ-TV and wfmz.com. Tickets for the awards ceremony are made available through participating schools. Rehearsal tickets and Freddy Awards Preview Party tickets are available for the May 23 awards ceremony dress rehearsal. Ticket information: freddyawards.org. Rehearsals for the opening number of the broadcast featuring four students from each of the 29 participating schools began May 10 at the State Theatre. Nominations for the 2018 Freddy Awards were announced during the May 10 broadcast of the “69 News at Noon” on WFMZ-TV. Strike up the bands: The Municipal Band of Allentown opens the West Park summer concert series at 7:30 p.m. May 27 in the historic Bandshell, 17th and Linden streets, Allentown. Upcoming concerts include: 7:30 p.m. June 1, Royalaires, “Dancing Under the Stars”; 7 p.m. June 2, Hector Rosado & Orchestra Heche, and 7:30 p.m. June 3, Allentown Band. The series continues through early September. There are park benches in front of the concert venue. However, the benches are often filled to capacity. It’s recommended that concert-goers bring a folding chair, blanket or spread to sit on. The concerts are presented by the Allentown Parks and Recreation Department. LV goes NYC: “El Sistema Side By Side: NYC & Lehigh Valley” will be presented at 2:30 p.m. May 26 in Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown. Three El Sistema-inspired programs from New York City and the Lehigh Valley come together for the first time to create music. Young musicians from Corona Youth Music Project, El Sistema Lehigh Valley and UpBeat NYC will showcase their programs, and culminate the concert with a performance together on stage at Miller Symphony Hall. The program is: Tchaikovsky (arranged by Jerry Brubaker), “1812 Overture”; Elgar, “Enigma IX, Nimrod: Adagio,” and Moncayo, “Huapango.” The group travels to New York City to perform at the Queen’s Museum at 2:30 p.m. May 27.
