UPPER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP: Community Memorial Day services planned in Upper Macungie

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1028 Church St., and St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1027 Church St., Fogelsville, are hosting a joint community Memorial Day service 10 a.m. May 28 at the Fogelsville Union Cemetery.

The service will be led by the Rev. Nelson Quinones and the Robert M. Fegely VFW Post 8282, Breinigsville.

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will assist at the service. Everyone is welcome to attend.

In addition to assisting at St. John’s joint Memorial Day service, the VFW Post will attend Memorial Day services 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s UCC, 1249 Trexlertown Road, Trexlertown, and at the post at 1522 Butz Road, Breinigsville, at noon May 28.

After the service, there will be a light snack provided.

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1028 Church St., Fogelsville, will have an attic treasure sale 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8 and June 9 at the church.

There will be a bake sale and lunch will be served both days.

They are accepting donations of new and gently used small household items, books and clothes.

The church is offering a Father’s Day brunch following the 9:30 a.m. worship service June 10.

Ziegels Church, 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville, is offering Saturday Family Friendly services from 6-7 p.m. May 26 and June 16 in the fellowship room.

The theme for May is “God Gave Us the Green Stuff.”

There will be a lesson, singing, a family project or activity, music and prayer followed by light refreshments.

The church will be offering Hero Center Vacation Bible School for children ages 3 to sixth grade 8:45-11:45 a.m. June 18-22.

Upper Macungie Township will show the movie “The Sandlot” June 8 at Lone Lane Park, 30 Lone Lane, Upper Macungie Township.

Pre-movie activities start at 7 p.m.

The township is offering pickup volleyball for kids 14 age and older from 6-8 p.m. June 17 to Aug. 12 at Upper Macungie Park, Route 100, Fogelsville.

All levels are welcome to participate. Both of these events are free to attend.

The township has partnered with tennis professional Brian Bleam to host adult and junior tennis clinics for all levels at Ricky Park, 5875 Ricky Ridge Trial, Orefield, and Blue Barn Park, 5770 Snowy Orchid.

Session two is scheduled for June 18- July 18.

There is a fee to attend and registration is required.

Parkland Community Library, 4422 Walbert Ave., South Whitehall Township, is hosting Jim Kane, a contracted program engineer for the early moon program 6:30 p.m. May 30.

Everyone is invited to come out and discover the coding programming and technology used to orchestrate a spacecraft landing on the moon.

The library staff will be showing the movie “Greatest Showman” at its Modern Brown Bag Classics 1 p.m. June 4.

Bring your lunch and they will provide the drinks.

Technical Tuesday is scheduled for 3-4 p.m. June 5 at Luther Crest retirement community, 800 Hausman Road, South Whitehall.

All these programs are free to attend. Registration is needed.
