STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject in school is math. I love trying to figure out a way to solve the problems because it engages me and makes me want to learn more.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. Some special awards I have received include 2nd All Team Conference Utility Player for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference for varsity softball. I also was the captain of the team last year. I was inducted into National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, as well. I have also achieved Principal’s Honor Roll throughout my high school years.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A. I am involved in many extracurricular activities such as varsity softball for Emmaus and tournament softball for the Lehigh Valley Patriot Flames. I also am a part of Key Club, Hornet Ambassadors and the EHS Orchestra. Additionally, I am a waitress at Friendly’s. I also help coach my sister’s softball team during the fall and spring.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. My goal after high school is to go to college to become a physical therapist and earn my doctorate.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge to date has to be striving for success in all I do despite the challenges that can arise living with two blended families.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I want to be remembered as a caring, supportive friend and a leader to those around me, both on and off the softball field. I want people to remember me as a respectful and helpful person.
Q. Who is in your family?
A. My mom and stepdad’s names are Valerie and Doug Downing. My dad and stepmom’s names are Russell and Marcie Purinton. My brother’s name is Matthew and my sister’s name is Madison. I have four dogs whose names are Bailey, Riley, Cali and Chatham.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my mother, Valerie Downing. She inspires everyone around her and always works above and beyond to be the best person she can be. She truly is the definition of a hard worker and I aspire to be like her one day.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Be true to yourself, always work hard and don’t give up on reaching your goals.
