LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONER
Township Manager Bruce Fosselman made a surprise announcement at the May 17 Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners meeting saying he will retire in September after 10 years of service. Fosselman has seen the township through many projects and also the transitioning to a first class township. Search for a replacement will begin.
A resident spoke about speeding on Sauerkraut Lane near Saw Mill Drive. Sauerkraut Lane is a wide road making it easy for vehicles to drive over the speed limit. The resident’s concern at Saw Mill Lane was for kids as well as people mowing their grass or walking along the road. This issue will be addressed further.
The Pennsylvania State Police submitted 2017 statistics showing 4,910 incidents during the year. There were 28 burglaries, 77 criminal mischief incidents and 368 thefts. The majority of the thefts were retail at Walmart.
In addition, there were 652 crashes with 401 non-reportable incidents. There were 156 DUIs, 1,963 traffic citations and 847 alarms. Vehicle break-ins continue to create problems. A reminder from the state police is to lock vehicles, remove items of value and remove suction cup mounts as it gives the idea of hidden items.
Fossleman spoke about the eighth annual Community Day. It was very successful. There were over 3,000 in attendance. Fosselman thanked all the employees who helped and particularly praised Denise Folk for her tireless efforts.
The sticker program for the Compost Center has been in existence for two years. There are over 6,000 residents registered. It was noted this program is a great success.
The upgrades to Mill Creek Road are almost ready. The designs and plans were expected to be submitted to the paving contractor May 18.
The recent shredding event was a great success with over 20 tons of paper shredded.
There has been no action on the billboard on Hamilton Boulevard. If there is no response by June 1, there will be legal action against Adams Outdoor Advertising.
A minor subdivision plan was approved for 3612 Orchid Place.
