Farms are the topic at meeting

A meeting to discuss the planned farm festival will be held June 26 at the Heidelberg Township Municipal building.

There will be a recognition ceremony, with state officials, 11:30 a.m. June 7 at Heidel Hollow Farm, Germansville, in honor of the 550,000 acres of farmland preserved in the commonwealth.

In other matters, Northern Valley Ambulance Corps, NOVA, responded to 20 calls in April with 98 percent coverage.

The average response time was 11.9 minutes. They were present for work 8 hours per day. The crew is nearly up to its desired staffing.

Supervisor Jonathan Jakum said the newsletter has been mailed. Gypsy moth spraying is being done using helicopters on state lands.

The Northwestern Recreation Commission received a $2,500 check from Nestle Waters. The money is to go toward the walking path. A walking path map is on the wall in the meeting room at the Heidelberg Township building.

A Color Run is scheduled for Oct. 14.

No Parking on the Grass signs have been placed at the community park. There are still questions about whether the rec commission could authorize the towing of cars.

Engineer Chris Noll said people would need to walk a little farther if they obey the signs.

Roadmaster Kevin Huber said the crew is tree trimming and sweeping.

They have also helped Lynn Township haul blacktop.

The road crew was to dig ditches for laying gas lines for the heating and air conditioning but the Department of Community and Economic Development said if the township does the work it will not be paid for whereas if a contractor is hired it will be paid.

Administrator Janice Meyers attended a Lehigh Valley mitigation meeting. All municipalities have submitted their paperwork. The plan should be complete by Oct. 10 and ready for the public in July.

Members of the community should try to attend the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission meetings developing plans for small municipalities.

Dawn Didra, zoning assistant, said the request for permits is double in May what it was in April.

Didra has been calling a Heidelberg Heights resident about a sump pump putting water on the street but receives no return calls.

The pallets at Powder Horn Court are slowly being removed and she has received a garbage complaint from a resident of Rex Road.

Lehigh Asphalt received all but one of the road materials bids.

That one was not approved but allowed to be handled at Huber’s discretion.
