From Northwestern Lehigh to Muhlenberg

During Brandon Eden’s senior year at Northwestern Lehigh High School, his teacher, Kristin DiGiacomo, who teaches biology and anatomy, needed to take time off from school due to her son, Bobby, being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Eden helped support a fundraiser for Bobby at an IronPigs baseball game during his last semester in high school.

As a member of Muhlenberg College’s baseball team, Eden decided to host and become involved with Team Impact, a national nonprofit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with local college athletic teams.

He, along with five other students, are responsible for coordinating the program, while the rest of the team participates in a broader perspective.

When Eden received word of his Team Impact child, he was elated to find out that, three years later, he would be hosting Bobby.

Events came full circle, and soon there was a happy reunion with his former teacher and her family.

There was a signing for Bobby on April 14 during which Bobby and Head Coach Tom Gross, both signed his team member intent form.

There was a cake, gifts, hat and a Muhlenberg jersey for Bobby.

The team played catch with Bobby, who attends some practices. In addition, many of the players have expressed an interest in attending one of Bobby’s baseball games.

A 2015 graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School, Eden is a junior biochemistry major and economics minor at Muhlenberg.
