VIKING VOICES
As part of Earth Day celebrations, the Allentown Central Catholic High School Ecology Club volunteered with the Friends of Allentown Organization to aid in cleaning up the grounds along the Jordan Creek April 29. The club is led by Gerard Caprio and Tom Shive.
Members of the track and field team celebrated their senior night recently at their meet against Emmaus. Senior Vikettes include Greta Alderman, Grace Baroun, Natalie Becker, Megan Dano, Alyssa Deschler, Emily Deschler, Mira-Belle Hadad, Olivia Herzog, AJ Intini, Devon Montanari and Isabel Pichardo. Senior Vikings include Danny Chlebove, Thomas Cope, Chris Deschler, Nick Deschler, Tristen Donchez-Hartney, Jack Ebert, Joey Gallina, Mary Krafczyk, Patrick Murphy, Derek Rahm, Anthony Schrayer, Santino Servagno, Aaron Shoemaker, Trevor Tormann and Austin Yankowy.
The Track and Field Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Championships were held May 8 and 9 at Whitehall High School. The Vikette 4x800-meter relay team placed fourth. Members of the team include seniors Alyssa Deschler, Emily Deschler and Devon Montanari and freshman Emily Jobes. Other medal winners include Lily Atiyeh with second place in girls pole vault; Alyssa Deschler with fourth place in girls 1600-meter run and Emily Deschler with third place in girls 1600-meter run and second place in girls 3200-meter run.
Central has six student athletes on the EPC Boys Lacrosse All-Star Teams. First Team members include seniors Daniel Glemser and Matt Marker. Second Team members include senior Harrison Ike, juniors Joe Pasquale and Luke Talago and sophomore Will Shimer.
Members of the Vikette softball team celebrated senior night May 2 at their game against Whitehall. Seniors include Meghan Carbone, Alex Evans, Gianna Fazio and Carly Sponsel.
The cheerleading team celebrated its year-end banquet May 6 at Shepherd Hills Golf Club. Seniors include Alyvia Benson, Cynthia Canario, Bridgette Gomez, Veronica Pasko, Michael Peppen, Kayla Rodriguez, Dana Roeder and Gianna Vassallo.
The spring sports awards and Mass were held May 10. Teams recognized include baseball, softball, lacrosse, boys tennis and track and field. The Senior Athlete of the Year award was also presented. Emily Deschler, who participated in cross country, soccer and track and field, was named the female recipient. Jay Vaughan, a basketball player, was named the male recipient.
The 2018 Freddy Award nominations were announced May 10. Central Catholic’s production of “Disaster!” received four nominations: Mary Wilson, Outstanding Performance by a Featured Dancer; Sam Austin, Outstanding Featured Performance by an Actress; Outstanding Stage Crew and Outstanding Overall Production by a Smaller School. 69 News WFMZ-TV will broadcast the Freddy Awards 7 p.m. May 24.
The ACCHS Dance Team Recital will take place 6:30 p.m. May 18 in Rockne Hall. There is a price for admission; students are free with ID. The concert band, jazz band and chorus concert will also take place May 18. It will start 7:30 p.m. in Masson Auditorium.
Viking Fest will be held 6 to 9 p.m. May 19 at Vault 634 in Allentown. The event will honor the late James M. Hodrick, who served as Central’s principal from 1976 to 2000, with the 2018 Semper Fidelis Award. Viking Fest will be the first school event at Vault 634, which recently underwent an extensive renovation. For more information, visit acchs.info/vikingfest.
