Recently, Saucon Valley has been focusing on our SADD club (Students Against Destructive Decisions). A volunteer from outside of the district came to the school and informed all of the students about the opioid epidemic a few weeks ago, and the student body as a whole was moved by the presentation.
The SADD club is now working to help students get involved in staying happy, healthy and helping out the school community. Not only have they hung informative and important posters around the school about different issues, club members have organized several activities to involve the student body. They organized a student driving seminar for juniors and seniors and they did an amazing job raising awareness of drinking and driving around prom time.
The seminar was a school event involving Lehigh Valley Hospital Network’s trauma coordinator and other local authorities including police officers. The goal of the event was to help provide information we can apply in our lives to make a difference in the lives of those around us.
As a school community, Saucon Valley makes it a goal to have peers watch out for each other, and this club is a great way to carry through with that goal. For awareness toward drinking in driving (just in time for prom), the SADD club introduced Grim Reaper Day. They took students out of school at random times to show what it would feel like to lose them through an accident.
Overall, the club did an amazing job showing the importance of smart decisions and helping students think smart to save themselves and others. The SADD club has many activities planned for the future, and we are hopeful to see some growth in the members and participants.
