UPPER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP: Upper Macungie offering junior emergency services academy

Upper Macungie Township is accepting applications for its 2018 Junior Emergency Services Academy, a week-long experience for kids to learn the fundamentals of first-responder professionals.

The academy will take place 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 23-27 at Upper Macungie Station 56, 6510 Schantz Road, Upper Macungie Township.

Enrollees must be township residents who are 12- to 16 years old by July 23. Class sizes are limited.

Good Will Fire Company No. 1, Trexlertown, 7723 Hamilton Blvd. is cooking up breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 13.

Breakfast includes two eggs, choice of two meats (bacon, ham, sausage and Mackerel) and one to three pancakes, homefries, toast, coffee, juice and water.

Ziegels Church, 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville, is beginning a new sewing ministry May 17 to make dresses for Dress a Girl Around the World, a campaign under Hope 4 Women International, a nonprofit organization bringing dignity to women around the world.

They will also be making pillow cases for children who are ill in area hospitals.

Join library staff to make tissue paper flowers and decorate a jar for a special Mother’s Day gift 10:30 a.m. May 12.

This event is for children and adults of all ages.

Kids in first grade and up, join library staff for a fun science workshop exploring chemistry, physics, and biology with hands-on activities 5 p.m. May 14.

Come and learn travel tips and insights by an experienced travel enthusiast Ann at the Travel with Savvy presentation 7 p.m. May 14.
