Exchange Club honors NAHS teachers
Northampton Exchange Club met March 13 at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave., to laud three Northampton Area High School employees - Douglas Fehnel, Lauren Sniscak and Joseph Svetecz - as Employees of the Month. The recipients were accorded framed certificates for their accomplishments.
This is the second year for this program.
Joseph Svetecz, February Employee of the Month, is in his third year at NAHS (11 years total) including his career and technical education teaching. He has garnered Teacher of the Quarter at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute every year it had the program from 2009-2012. He was nominated for the DaVinci Science Center Master Teacher Award and served on a state committee to design project-based assessments for students failing Keystone biology exams. Peers say Svetecz is incredibly positive and an excellent collaborator and communicator whose valuable insight to his students has earned their respect as they excel.
Lauren Sniscak, January Employee of the Month, is in her third year as a mathematics teacher at NAHS. She is the high school’s head cheerleading coach, and the competition cheerleading team placed fourth of 13 teams in the EPC competition. The team also won silver medals in the District XI Championships, which earned them a bid to compete in the PIAA state competition. It was the first team from NAHS to earn such a berth. Sniscak is the adviser of Student Council, which raised $6,600 at its mini-THON event for the Four Diamonds Fund. Her colleagues say Sniscak has a strong commitment to the school, students and her classrooms and does a “fantastic job” in juggling her responsibilities.
Douglas Fehnel, December Employee of the Month, has been a physical education teacher for 19 years and is the department’s coordinator. He assists students and staff with support services and is reliable, hardworking and consistent with a positive outlook, his peers say.
