MACUNGIE COLUMN

The Macungie Farmers Market will hold its 12th season grand opening 4 to 7 p.m. May 17. The market features local family farmers providing home grown fruits, vegetables, meat products, eggs, baked goods, plants and more. The farmers market will be open 4 to 7 p.m. every Thursday through October except Aug. 23. Parking is available at the park parking lot and along North Walnut Street.

The Parkland Art League will hold its next meeting 7 p.m. May 8 at the Macungie Institute. The guest artist for the evening will be Wendy Steed giving a demonstration in watercolors. For more information, visit sites.google.com.site/parklandartleague or parklandart@gmail.com.

With warmer temperatures come the many outside events held from spring through fall at Macungie Memorial Park. Volunteers are needed to help with these events. If you are able to donate some time, call 610-966-4289 or email macungiepark@gmail.com.

There will be an Ah-Ha Arts event May 5 and 6 at Macungie Memorial Park. This will be an artisan pop-up shop focusing on artisans who work in functional crafts including pottery, basketry, soapmaking, herbal crafts, woodworking, candles, leather, fabric, weaving and glass.

Primary elections will be held May 15. Macungie residents vote at the Macungie Memorial Park main building.

Macungie Rod and Gun Club will hold its annual children’s fishing contest 8 a.m. to noon May 19 at Swabia Creek behind Allen Organ. Each registered child receives a hot dog and soda. Arrive early to register.

The Mid Atlantic Cavy Breeders Association will hold a show May 19 at Macungie Memorial Park.

There will be an Alice’s Tea Time with Alice and the Mad Hatter noon to 2 p.m. May 19 (raindate May 20) at Macungie Memorial Pool. The Church of the Good Shepherd will hold Music Ministry Sunday 10:30 a.m. May 20. The choral choir, bell choir and ensemble will perform. There will be a social hour after church to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the church.

Macungie Pool will be open noon to 8 p.m. May 26 to Aug. 26 weekdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends. On weekdays, there is toddler time 11 a.m. to noon. Swim lessons are available. For information, call 610-966-5757.

The Macungie VFW will host Memorial Day activities May 28 beginning with a flag raising 8:30 a.m. at Macungie Memorial Park. The parade will begin 10 a.m. The parade route will be on Main Street from Buttonwood to Poplar streets. There will be Memorial Day celebrations at Macungie Memorial Park following the parade.

Macungie Borough Council meets 7:30 p.m. May 7 and 21 at Macungie Borough Hall, 21 Locust St., Macungie.

The Macungie Park Board of Directors meeting will be held downstairs 7 p.m. May 29. The public is welcome.
