Ag Security properties announced

The April 19 Heidelberg Township supervisors’ meeting answered a question that audience members had been prepared to ask.

When residents ask to have land included in an Agricultural Security Area, there are advertisements in the newspaper announcing the requests, but apparently never from Heidelberg.

Supervisors approved resolutions to include LET Farms’ 64.91 acres at Heil and Central roads, and for Glenn and Kathryn Frey, Bake Oven Road, for 61.5 acres.

A new request for Dwayne Henritzy to have 12.399 acres included on Memorial Road was accepted but the announcement was made it would not be advertised because if no action is taken for 180 days it is automatically included with no cost for taxpayers, which was what had been done for the previous two for which the resolutions were approved.

In other matters, a battery will be added by PennDOT to the traffic light at the intersection of Route 309 and Northwest Road to provide uninterruptable service.

The amount held by the township exceeds the amount of the bond for the treasurer. The bond will be raised to $700,000.

Supervisor David Fink said he attended the Washington Township meeting to request that township’s roads for part of the Sept. 22 Heidelberg Church 5K run and walk. Permission was given.

In March 92 percent of emergency calls were answered by NOVA Ambulance Corps with seven missed due to lack of personnel, which issue is being resolved. Mark Smith, NOVA representative, has resigned as liaison. He will help find a replacement representative.

Construction of the Northwestern Recreation Community Park walking trail will begin in July.

The question was raised at the recreation commission meeting on how enforcement can be done to prevent parking on grass at the park. The question was asked about where people should park and Steve Bachman said the lower parking area is unused.

The recreation commission would require legal authorization before having cars towed.

The new sweeper seems to be working well, reported Roadmaster Kevin Huber after a single repair. Signs either stolen or storm damaged have been replaced at a cost of $600. The township received $6,855 for its old sweeper.

Zoning Assistant Dawn Didra said a required National Pollution Discharge Elimination System on Rachel Drive was not settled.

On Long Court a heavy metal mailbox post has to be replaced with wood as the metal would be a danger if hit by a vehicle.

Chris Noll, engineer, said percolation testing will be done on the walking trail. With the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission involved it is being looked at more closely.

Didra reported the Environmental Advisory Council will perform clean up at Bake Oven on June 16. There will also be a May 27 well and septic workshop.

Phillips Armstrong, Lehigh County executive, said he tries to get out to all meetings. He said he would like to make David Fink director of the Northern Tier. He wants better communication with the outlying townships.

“I’m interested in hearing what you need. I can’t necessarily give it but I will listen,” he said.
