Come out and show support for our veterans during the annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony May 28. The parade begins promptly 9 a.m., moving out from the Emmaus High School parking lot, continuing to Chestnut Street and ending at the Memorial Triangle on Fourth Street. The memorial service will be held at this location. Maj. Debra L. Fetherman, U.S. Air Force ret., will be the speaker. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the Emmaus High School auditorium beginning 10 a.m.

The Emmaus Veterans Committee will hold cemetery services including an honor guard and firing squad at Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church 9 a.m. May 20.

On May 27, the Emmaus Veterans Committee will honor departed comrades buried in each of the six Emmaus cemeteries. The public is invited to be present for a short prayer service, rifle salute and taps. The ceremonies begin 8 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, then proceed in the following order: Old Moravian, Moravian at Ridge Street, Lutheran Reformed, Northwood and ending at Evangelical, Second and Ridge streets.

The veterans bricks installation ceremony will be held 1 p.m. May 27 at the Emmaus Remembrance Garden, 164 E. Main St., on the grounds of the Knauss Homestead.

The Emmaus Rotary will host a motorcycle ride at Alburtis Park, 328 S. Main St., to raise awareness and funds for local veterans May 12 (rain date is May 13). Sign in begins 8 a.m.; ride begins 9 a.m. to noon. Bikers and passengers will start and finish the ride at the park, which will be followed by a catered barbecue, music and beer. Come to ride or for lunch and musical entertainment. There is a cost. The proceeds will be presented to a local charity which serves veterans in our area. Lehigh Valley Martial Arts invites the public to learn about Tai Chi and Oigong at a World Tai Chi and Qigong Day celebration 9 to 11 a.m. April 28 on the Triangle in Emmaus. Call 610-966-2234 for information.

A cinematography workshop will be held 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. May 6 at Triangle Park. The event is directed by Stephanie Gardner.

Lincoln Elementary School, 233 Seem St., will hold its annual spring festival 4 to 7 p.m. May 11.

Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. May 7 and 21 in council chambers, 28 S. Fourth St. The borough offices will be closed May 28 for the Memorial Day holiday. Reminder: Due to the holiday, put trash and recycling out May 30 for a May 31 pickup.

The compost center has new hours beginning April 30. From April 30 to Sept. 17, the center will be open 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays; 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. For information, visit borough.emmaus.pa.us.

The Emmaus Senior Citizens group meets 1 p.m. every Friday at St. Matthew’s E.C. Church, Fifth and Ridge streets. All local senior citizens are welcome. Entertainment will be May 4: Michael Evans, musician; May 11: Ken Purcell, musician; May 18, Dick Roberts, musician and May 25 is game day.

The Emmaus Garden Club will meet noon May 1 at Faith Presbyterian Church. Lori Metz, master gardener in Lehigh and Northampton counties, will present a program on basic shrub and perennials care. All are welcome. The club will hold a Spring Festiv-TEA, 2 to 4 p.m. May 19 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. The event includes light refreshments, door prizes and more. The Emmaus Farmers Market will hold its ribbon-cutting and opening day ceremonies for the regular market 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6. The Knauss Homestead Preservation Society has a busy May planned. The annual meeting is 7 p.m. May 2 at the Emmaus Moravian Church. All are welcome to attend. The group will be doing the homestead’s annual spring cleanup 10 a.m. May 5 at the homestead. All sets of hands and tools are welcome. The society members will join with the Remembrance Garden group May 27 for the garden’s veterans brick laying ceremony. Please plan to attend.

The Emmaus Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting 7 p.m. May 16 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, Fifth and Chestnut streets. The program, “The Stryer Section,” will be presented by Bill Barto and Patty (Stryer) Zazo and includes color slides and photos taken by Patty’s father, a builder and developer, who sold homes in the 1940s and 1950s in the Stryer section of Emmaus. Immediately prior to the program, the society will hold election of officers and directors. The public is invited and light refreshments will be served.
