Spring continues to be an eventful time at Allentown Central Catholic.

Students Neil Maydick (percussion) and Maria Romero (clarinet) performed in the New York Invitational Music Festival at Carnegie Hall April 4 with Dieruff High School’s band. The students were invited by Dieruff director Lawrence Flynn. The performance featured groups from Connecticut, Georgia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Bishop Alfred Schlert celebrated Mass in Rockne Hall April 6. Mass was followed by a performance from the O’Grady Quinlan Irish Dancers, including ACCHS students Megan Dano, Molly Dougher and Shannon O’Neill.

The spring musical “Disaster!” had a successful run April 5 to 7, selling out every performance. The show is a contender for the Freddy Awards, which recognize achievements in high school musical theater in Lehigh, Northampton and Warren counties. Nominations will be announced in early May.

The 2018 ACCHS Partner School Math and Writing Awards were held April 9. The event celebrated elementary and middle schools who excel in math and writing such as poetry and prose.

Fifteen students competed in the seventh grade math division; the champion was Hunter Ramsey from St. Michael the Archangel.

Twenty-four students competed in the eighth grade math competition; Christopher Oliveira from St. Thomas More took first.

Writing contest winners in the primary division included Ayjah Harris of St. John Vianey and Katiana Rosario of St. Ann.

Intermediate winners included Anneliese Kloiber of St. John Vianey, Elayna Ebert of Good Shepherd and Cecilia Christ of St. Thomas More.

Middle school winners included Megan Niecwiadoicz of St. Joseph the Worker, Elena Wenrich-Quinoes of St. Michael’s and Samantha Hausman of St. Thomas More.

On April 10, the German and accounting classes took a field trip to Hershey where they toured The Hershey Story Museum, Hershey High School and the Hershey Medical Center. The trip was a culmination of lessons on German-American entrepreneurs.

NHS Coffeehouse was held April 11. The night featured musical performances from many students and was a unique bonding experience for all in attendance.

A designer purse bingo will be held May 6 in Masson Auditorium. Doors will open 12:15 p.m. and bingo will start 1 p.m. There is a cost. Food and special prize games will also be available. To register and for more information, visit the school’s Facebook page.

Freshman orientation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. May 7 in Rockne Hall. The night will feature the freshman T-shirt distribution, a welcome presentation and an opportunity to interact with Central’s academic, artistic, athletic, extracurricular and spiritual programs.

The ninth annual ACCHS Football Golf Tournament will take place May 12 at Shepherd Hills Golf Club in Wescosville. The day will begin with registration 7 to 7:45 a.m.; a four-person scramble will follow with a shotgun start 8 a.m. For more information, visit the school’s Facebook page.

Two Vikette swimmers are celebrating wins. Senior Angie Castano won the District XI 2A 100 butterfly; junior Lily Atiyeh won the district diving title and placed fifth at states.

Reservations for Viking Fest are now open. The event will be held May 19 at Vault 634 in Allentown and will honor Mr. James M. Hodrick, ACCHS principal from 1976 to 2000. More information can be found at acchs.info/vikingfest.

ACCHS student Matthew Miller recently was recognized for his environmental contribution to Allentown. He performed a chemical analysis on Joseph S. Daddona Lake by testing oxygen, nitrate and phosphate levels. He has also collected samples from other areas in the Lehigh Valley. This summer, Miller will partner with the Friends of the Allentown Parks to prepare a trout fishing contest for kids.

The Class of 2003 will hold its 15th reunion at North Catasauqua Park 3 to 8 p.m. June 30. There is a cost per person; guests are welcome. Reservations must be made by June 9 and can be made at acchsclassof2003@gmail.com. For more information, visit acchs.info/reunion-news.

The Class of 2021 will partner with Jack Callaghan’s in Allentown during April. For every order of Viking Wing Sauce sold until April 30, the Class of 2021 will receive 25 cents. Until April 30, bring in the event’s flyer, which can be found on the school website and Jack Callaghan’s will donate 10 percent of all wing sales to the class. Freshman Wing Night is 4 to 9 p.m. April 20.
