On April 7, a Rubik’s Cube competition was held at Lower Macungie Middle School, an east coast portion of a national competition.
The Rubik’s Cube was created in 1974 by Ernõ Rubik, a professor from Budapest, Hungary, who wanted to help his students understand three-dimensional problems.
Since its international launch in 1980, an estimated 400 million Rubik’s Cubes have been sold.
The event at LMMS was organized by Emmaus High School student Ishaan Lal. He was supported by Diana Yi, an official delegate of the World Cube Association and EHS teachers Brian Harkness and Melissa Montero who were also instrumental in the organization of the event.
Registration was full for the April 7 event. All registrants paid $25 to participate and all proceeds were donated to No Place for Hate.
The competition began at 9:45 a.m. and awards were given 6:30 p.m.
The Cube Depot sponsored the event as well as participating as a vendor.
