The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. May 2 to discuss “The Girl Who Wrote in Silk” by Kelli Estes. The book for June 6 will be “Harness the Storm” by Sharon Lee Villone.

The library is currently under construction. As part of the expansion of the community center, the library will add 4,400 square feet to house the children’s wing. This will allow for larger classes for children’s programs and allow for two meeting rooms for quiet study and tutoring.

The library will present “How to Maximize your Paycheck” 6 p.m. April 29. Financial consultant Jennifer Riggs will discuss how to make the most of your money. Registration is required.

International Tabletop Day will observed 1 to 3 p.m. April 28 with an afternoon of tabletop games.

The Teen Advisory Board for students in grades six through 12 meets 3:30 p.m. May 18.

There are many preschool storytimes throughout the week. The schedule can be found on www.lowermaclib.org.

The library offers “Book a Librarian” services for one-on-one help with using eReaders, downloading eBooks, tablets or computer programs such as Excel and Microsoft Word.

The next Friends meeting is 10 a.m. April 21 in the library. New Friends of Lower Macungie Library are welcome.

The spring book sale will be held May 4 and 5 with a Friends of the Lower Macungie Library Preview Night May 3. Current membership is required to attend the preview night but may be renewed that evening.

Donations are no longer being accepted for the spring book sale. Due to the library construction, donations will not be accepted for the fall book sale until Aug. 1. There will be no summer sale.

Swim lesson registration for Lower Macungie Pool has begun. Signups are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Lower Macungie Community Center.

Summer playground signups will take place 6 to 8 p.m. April 18 at the community center. The program runs June 25 through Aug. 10 for children ages six to 11 years old.

Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the community center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 21.

The Lower Macungie “Lazers” Swim Team registration for children ages five to 18 will be held 5 to 7 p.m. April 23 at the community center. The season runs May 29 to July 21 and a Lower Macungie Township pool membership is required.

The Nutrition Group, East Penn’s food service provider, will present a Nutrition, Health and Safety Fair 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 28 at Lower Macungie Middle School. There will be information on nutrition and healthy snacks as well as health screenings and free food samples.

Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will hold its 19th annual Used Book Sale 7 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. April 28 at the Lower Macungie Middle School cafeteria in conjunction with the nutrition fair. A brown bag blowout will start 3 p.m.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold an Earth Day clothes recycling event 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 28 at Concordia Lutheran Church on Brookside Road. Acceptable items for the clothing drive include new and gently used clothing, shoes, coats, bedding, towels and stuffed animals. Tax donation receipts are available. There will be family-friendly Earth Day activities 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as well as a child identification program and food. For more information, call the church at 610-965-3265.

The Church of the Good Shepherd will hold a “Journey of Faith” 10:30 a.m. April 29 during the worship service. Charles Knerr will explain the religious symbolism for the church’s architecture and furnishings. A nickel carnival featuring games, food and fun will follow the service.

The community center will host its eighth annual Community Day 4 to 8 p.m. May 1. Activities include kite making, face painting, a petting zoo and giant slide and moon bounce. There will also be representatives from many township clubs and organizations, including Pennsylvania State Police, Lower Macungie Fire Department and MedEvac.

There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 5. Each family can shred up to four boxes per household. The event is sponsored by Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th, State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th and Lower Macungie Township.

The Ancient Oaks garage sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28, rain or shine.

Ancient Oaks Womens Organization will have its annual banquet May 2 at the Superior Restaurant, Emmaus. The organization wishes to thank all who support the scholarship program through their fundraisers. Have a great summer. They hope to see new members at the Sept. 5 meeting.

The Lower Macungie Garden Club will meet 1 p.m. May 9 at the community center.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon May 1 and 15 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

Curbside collection of yard waste will take place May 14 to 18.

The Lower Macungie Township Community Center offers a number of activities. Upcoming adult activities include card making classes, community meal prep, acting and sewing classes and Pilates. Macungie Ambulance will offer “Family and Friends” CPR training 6 to 8 p.m. May 23 at the community center. The course titled “Health Care Professional – Basic Life Support” will be offered 6 to 9 p.m. May 31.

A safe sitter program will be offered 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2 for ages 11 and older.

Family Open Gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.

Yard waste site winter hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The site is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Beginning May 1, the hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Be prepared to show your photo I.D. as proof of residency.
