The Shelter House Society will hold its annual Patriot’s Day Dinner, 6 p.m. at Emmaus Citizen’s Fire Company #2, Pennsylvania Ave. and S. 10th St. There is a cost and reservations are required. The guest speaker will be historian Scott Herring, a fifth generation underground coal mining family member and the last of the anthracite coal region photographers.

April 28

The Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will hold its 20th annual used book sale beginning 7 a.m. at Lower Macungie Middle School, 6299 Lower Macungie Road. The event will be held in the school cafeteria where an estimated 18,000 pre-enjoyed books go on sale. A Nutrition Health and Safety Fair, organized by Nutrition, Inc., the food service provider of the East Penn School District, will take place 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the school’s lobby. The book sale shuts down 2:45 p.m. and reopens 3 p.m. for a brown bag blowout.

The Emmaus Lions Club’s semi-annual Pennsylvania Dutch Chowder Sale at Emmaus Community Park. Containers will be available for pickup and purchase between 7 and 11 a.m. For more information, contact any Lion member or call 610-965-7355.

Pet loss and grief seminar 2 to 3:30 p.m. hosted by Stephens Funeral Home and Day by Day Pet Caregiver Support. The seminar will be held at Stephens Funeral Home, 274 N. Krocks Road, Allentown, and will include topics such as human-animal bond, learning about grief, coping with grief, struggling with guilt and regrets, the need to mourn, healing after loss, memorialization, children and pets in grief and when to adopt again. “Show Me the Money Bingo!” presented by Emmaus Main Street Partners and the Emmaus Historical Society at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St., Emmaus. Doors open 1 p.m.; event will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at Emmaus Jewel Shop, 338 Main St., Emmaus and at David’s Electric, 314 Main St., Emmaus. Only 150 tickets are available. Proceeds will benefit the Emmaus Historical Society capital campaign and the Emmaus Main Street Partners.

The Church of the Good Shepherd UCC, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis, will hold a “Journey of Faith” presentation during the 10:30 a.m. service. Charles Knerr will explain the religious symbolism for the church’s architecture and furnishings. All are welcome. Immediately following the service, a nickel carnival will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. which includes games, food and fun for all.

Annual Community Day Event at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center, 3450 Brookside Road, 4 to 8 p.m. This Lower Macungie Township sponsored event has fun for everyone. Meet with local businesses and area groups; there will be free games and activities for the kids including a petting zoo, face painting, inflatables and more.

May 5
